The high security prison located on an Island in San Francisco Bay, is known for being the most secure penitentiary in American History. He early involved in criminal activities like robbery and drug offenses which leads multiple arrests, he was highly intelligent with above average IQ, because of bank robbery and repeatedly prison escape, Morris was sent to Alcatraz on January 20, 1960.

John arrested multiple times for robbery along with his brother Clarence, he came from poor family, due to multiple escape attempts from other prisons John sent to Alcatraz prison in October 1960. at Alcatraz he met Morris and began planning on famous escape

American criminal Born on May 11,1931, in Georgia. John Anglin is elder brother, along his brother he turned to crime in the 1950s, robbing banks without any violence, after many escapes, Clarence was transferred to Alcatraz in 1961.

It was the dark of June 11, 1962. when the impossible escaped began. the three inmates executed one of the most legendary escapes in worlds history over several months they secretly dug the rear wall of their cells using kitchen tools like spoons and drill make by using cleaner motor from vacuum cleaner.
Because behind the walls of their cells, they discovered an unguarded utility corridor, which become their escaped room, they prepare their route, hidden from guards and surveillance the hideaway that made the impossible escape, possible.
Planning the Possible
The escapees were planned to create dummy heads using tissue, plaster, soap and real hair to fool guards during nightly bed checks they also collect 50+ raincoats from other inmates, to make inflatable raft. which they believed it could carry over the pacific sea, their plan was audacious.
The dark of June 11, 1962
On that dark night prisoners slipped through the holes they created from the cells to utility corridor. from corridor, they climbed to the prison roof later that they descended down by a pipe which is not easy, but the trio make that possible after that they made their way to Shore, they inflated their prison made raft and set off into the darkness of San Francisco Bay.
After rafting into the cold, the trio of Frank Morris and the two Anglin brothers Jhon and Clarence vanished into the darkness, their escapes from Alcatraz left authorities scrambling and the public captivated, the mystery will be mystery until today, they survived or not.
Investigation Unfolds
The Morning, during routine checks, guards discovered the absence of Morris and the Anglin brothers, their beds lay meticulously crafted dummy heads, the unfolding triggered multiple law enforcement agencies.
Investigators found that the prisoners escape from the vent opening at the back of their cells, and they are gaining access to unguarded utility corridor, from there they climb to roof, and descended towards shoreline, on northeastern side of Island escape plan were uncovered.
From the morning several items were recovered from the Bay.

No evidence confirmed whether they reached the mainland.
Speculation Theories
During investigation several theories was found from evidence, official FBI position concluded that trio drowned in the frigid waters, exhaustion before reaching the shore. on the other side some believed the escapes is successful and they reach mainland and vanished over the years.
During 2013, a letter purportedly written by John Anglin, clamming that all the tree escapees had survived but the authenticity of the letter is unverified, and an authority mot found any legal evidence about letter.
Enduring Mystery
The U.S Marshals service continues to hold active warrants for their arrest, the case remains open. 1962 escapes inspired numerous documentaries, films and books. one of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries in American History.
The Anglin family never believed the brother died that night, over the year they receive unknown phone calls, post card and even Christmas card with no return address. One photo sent to the family in the 1970s which shows two men, standing beside a road in Brazil,
And in 2013 a letter arrived at San Francisco Police Department allegedly from John Anglin, He write “Yes we all made it that night” I’m 83 years old and in bad condition. I am suffering from cancer and letter requested medical help in exchange of surrender.
FBI check the letter but never confirm the authenticity publicly, they’ve kept the case active because without bodies or confirm death, FBI closed their case in 1979 but the U.S Marshal never did. the escaped was never fully resolved.
Anglin brother’s nephew spent years to collecting evidence for the belief that his uncles survived. In interview he mentions the brother lived quietly in South America for years. some research said the plan was not only feasible but likely successful.
